Low Calories Breckfast Indian Upma


Oats Upma

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1/2 tsp chana dal (split chickpeas)
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Dry roast the oats in a pan for 2-3 minutes until they turn slightly brown. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in the same pan and add mustard seeds. When they start to splutter, add cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Sauté for a minute.
  3. Add onion and green chili and sauté until onion turns translucent.
  4. Add tomatoes, bell pepper, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the veggies turn slightly soft.
  5. Add the roasted oats and mix well. Add water and cover the pan. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes on medium-low heat.
  6. Turn off the heat and let it sit for a minute.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
This recipe makes 1 serving and has approximately 200-250 calories per serving. You can adjust the amount of oil and vegetables according to your preference.
