How to make delicious moong dal
- 1 cup moong dal (mung beans)
- 3 cups water
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves (cilantro), for garnish
- Rinse the moong dal in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the dal for 30 minutes.
- Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a pressure cooker or a pot with 3 cups of water.
- Add turmeric powder and salt to the dal and mix well.
- Pressure cook the dal for 3-4 whistles or boil it in a pot until it becomes soft and cooked through.
- In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then add asafoetida and stir for a few seconds.
- Add coriander powder and red chili powder to the pan and stir for a few seconds.
- Pour the spiced oil mixture over the cooked dal and mix well.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
