Tasty Moong Dal Recipe


How to make delicious moong dal

Moong dal, also known as mung bean, is a popular legume in Indian cuisine and is used to make a variety of dishes. Here is a recipe for making delicious moong dal:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup moong dal (mung beans)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves (cilantro), for garnish
Instructions:

  1. Rinse the moong dal in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the dal for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a pressure cooker or a pot with 3 cups of water.
  3. Add turmeric powder and salt to the dal and mix well.
  4. Pressure cook the dal for 3-4 whistles or boil it in a pot until it becomes soft and cooked through.
  5. In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat.
  6. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then add asafoetida and stir for a few seconds.
  7. Add coriander powder and red chili powder to the pan and stir for a few seconds.
  8. Pour the spiced oil mixture over the cooked dal and mix well.
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
