Moong dal chilla is a popular and delicious dish in Indian cuisine, made from moong dal (split green gram). Here is a simple recipe to make delicious moong dal chilla:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup moong dal (split green gram)
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking
Instructions:

  1. Soak the moong dal in water for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight. Drain the water and rinse the dal well.
  2. Add the soaked moong dal, ginger, and green chilli to a blender and grind to a smooth paste. You may need to add a little water to help with the blending process.
  3. Transfer the moong dal paste to a bowl and add chopped onion, tomato, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Heat a non-stick pan on medium heat and grease it with a little oil.
  5. Pour a ladleful of the moong dal mixture onto the pan and spread it out evenly to form a thin pancake-like chilla.
  6. Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat until the underside turns golden brown and the top begins to dry out.
  7. Flip the chilla and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite chutney or sauce.
