- 1 cup moong dal (split green gram)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 tomato, finely chopped
- 1/2 inch ginger, grated
- 1 green chilli, finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for cooking
Instructions:
- Soak the moong dal in water for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight. Drain the water and rinse the dal well.
- Add the soaked moong dal, ginger, and green chilli to a blender and grind to a smooth paste. You may need to add a little water to help with the blending process.
- Transfer the moong dal paste to a bowl and add chopped onion, tomato, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Heat a non-stick pan on medium heat and grease it with a little oil.
- Pour a ladleful of the moong dal mixture onto the pan and spread it out evenly to form a thin pancake-like chilla.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat until the underside turns golden brown and the top begins to dry out.
- Flip the chilla and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
- Serve hot with your favorite chutney or sauce.
