How to make Mix Dal
- 1 cup mixed lentils (moong dal, toor dal, chana dal, urad dal, masoor dal)
- 3 cups water
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
- Salt to taste
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
- Rinse the mixed lentils in water until the water runs clear. Soak them in water for about 30 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker or a large pot, add the soaked lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Pressure cook the lentils for about 3 to 4 whistles or until the lentils are soft and mushy. If using a pot, cook the lentils for about 30 to 40 minutes or until they are soft and cooked.
- In a pan, heat ghee or oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add coriander powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
- Add the cooked lentils to the pan with the spices. Mix well and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes on low heat.
- Adjust salt and spices to taste. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
